Speech: Helmut Riemann / Riemann Gesellschaft von Architekten
“No one is born a master,” is Helmut Riemann’s favorite quote.
The architectural firm Riemann Gesellschaft von Architekten mbH has been in business for over 40 years. The early years were largely shaped by work on existing buildings, and even today, renovation and remodeling projects, as well as buildings in a historical context, play a major role. Beyond that, Helmut Riemann and his colleagues consider themselves fortunate to be entrusted with a wide range of projects: from 5-star luxury hotels to wastewater treatment plants, from castle ruins to custom-built homes. Mr. Riemann describes their approach as being less abstract, philosophical, or theoretical in nature. Rather, it is shaped by the specific conditions of the site and the project. They therefore do not strive for a recognizable signature style, but rather seek to uncover and eliminate the weaknesses of a situation, while supporting or restoring its existing strengths.

“You have to look at it from a sports perspective!”—a favorite quote of Thomas Fenner’s.
Thomas Fenner has been working as a managing partner at FSWLA Landschaftsarchitektur GmbH in Düsseldorf since 1997. Despite having been with the company for 27 years, he still enjoys going to the office every day. He defines the work at the firm by the following principle: “We take pleasure in doing good work.”
What fascinates Mr. Fenner most about his profession is the freedom of possibilities. He counts the Kö-Bogen in Düsseldorf among his greatest projects to date.
Mr. Fenner describes the ABC Architects’ Day as taking place in a memorable setting. He also found the presentations enriching, with pleasant conversations and a welcoming atmosphere.

“The difference between a good architect and a bad one today is that the former succumbs to every temptation, while the latter resists them,” as quoted by Ludwig Wittgenstein in 1930—a favorite quote of Ivan Reimann.
The architectural firm Thomas Müller Ivan Reimann Gesellschaft von Architekten mbH has been in existence for more than 35 years and has completed a wide range of large and significant projects. Most of its commissions result from competitions it has won. The highest priority is placed not only on design, but also on the quality of execution and the management of projects across the entire spectrum of services. Mr. Reimann and his colleagues are committed to architecture in Europe and seek concepts for their realization.
What particularly fascinates Mr. Reimann about his profession is the opportunity to change the world and make it a better place—not in its entirety, but in specific areas. He has already created a whole series of major projects, such as the new building for the Federal Foreign Office, the Ministry of the Interior, the faculty buildings at Goethe University, and the Marienturm in Frankfurt am Main. These are successful projects, but in his opinion, recognition generally has nothing to do with the size of the construction project; rather, it is the ability to see smaller projects through to completion with great consistency.
At the ABC Architects’ Day, he was particularly pleased by the many attentive visitors.
